Getting sick in Denmark

I apologize for not posting anything for a while. While on a class trip to Germany, I came down with something. I probably would have been fine if I hadn't decided to try to do 8 hours of travel on just 3 hours of sleep. Apparently, I do not possess the ability to sleep on trains.

My first weekend back, I had a rather bad fever. Unfortunately, most medications require a prescription in Denmark. The most I could have gotten over the counter was a basic non-aspirin painkiller. My RA explained that I could have gone to the pharmacy and gotten a prescription directly from them for a saline nasal spray to help with congestion, but the problem lay in my throat and I really hate nasal sprays. Also, a prescription for a nasal spray. That seems like such a strict regulation in my eyes. I had no possible hope of getting anything similar to DayQuil here, even if I did go to a doctor.

Luckily, I got better before I decided I had best go to a doctor. I didn't want to attempt to navigate the Danish healthcare system when I am not a resident.

I have learned a lesson and definitely pass this advice to anyone ever visiting Scandinavia: Bring DayQuil, even if you don't think you will need it!
