To the top of the round tower

A couple days ago, we climbed to the top of Rundetaarn, or the round tower. It's a tower attached to a church just a couple blocks from where I live in central Copenhagen. It was once used as an astronomical observatory and still operates as one. Now for 25 kroner (about $4) anyone can climb to the top and find a wonderful view of Copenhagen.

To climb to the top, you follow a spiral ramp 34.8 meters up.

About halfway up is the old University of Kobenhavn library. It used to house every book the university owned. Now, it is used for art exhibits. Currently, there is a really interesting exhibit of tattooing over 100 years. It is an engrained part of Danish history, given that so many sailors harbored here. In fact, one of the world's oldest tattoo parlors is still open along one of the canals in Copenhagen!

Interesting remnants of the old observatory. This is an ancient model of the universe.

Then, the gorgeous views of Copenhagen from the very top. It is a tradition among the Danes to enjoy a beer along with the views at the top, so that is exactly what we did. :)
